A COVID-19 Update from Skate World Center: Cleanliness Procedures as We Prepare to Reopen

As residents of our community we take cleanliness very seriously. Skate World is a locally-owned, family-operated small business. We know how critically important it is that families have a safe opportunity to get some fun and exercise after weeks of quarantine. As we prepare for a safe reopening, we will continue to go above and beyond our existing cleanliness measures. We are adding even more enhanced cleaning procedures to ensure a safe environment for all of our guests and team.

Skate World Center’s Cleanliness Safety Guidelines

When you visit us you can EXPECT:
1.    Increased cleaning and sanitation measures
2.    A designated sanitizing team member who will be regularly cleaning and sanitizing all commonly touched surfaces
3.    Masks on all of our team members
4.    Fewer tables, which will be spaced 6 feet apart
5.    Temperatures to be taken of all guests and team members before entry
6.    Floor decals to guide our guests as they line up at our counters
7.    Easy-to-find hand sanitizing stations

Our Tallahassee birthday parties start at as little as $159 and includes 3 hours of fun for you and your guests. Here are a few gift ideas for skaters:

  • New Skates – If you have a serious skater in your life, one of the most exciting things you can get them is a new pair of skates!
  • Skating Accessories – If the person you’re shopping for already has a nice pair of skates, consider getting them new wheels or bearings as an upgrade.

Looking to Get In Shape? Try Skating!

tired workout - stretchingLiving healthy is something we all want to do but it’s also a lot easier said than done. A great way to add some healthy habits to your lifestyle is to incorporate fun activities that are good for you. Joining a sports team, taking a dance class or, our personal favorite, going skating, are all great options! Roller skating is a really great way to get and stay in shape.

Check out some of the health benefits and then swing by Skate World in Tallahassee, Florida, to get your exercise in after the big Thanksgiving feast.

  • Feel the burn – When you skate regularly, you might as well skip leg day at the gym! Roller skating can strengthen your leg muscles, including quads, hamstrings, hips, and calf muscles.
  • Strengthen your core – Roller skating works your core muscles better than almost any other recreational activity, making it a great way to get that six pack without doing boring crunches. You might not even notice it, but maintaining your balance requires you to flex and hold abdominal muscles that you might not normally engage, too.
  • Build your endurance – Tired of going nowhere fast on the treadmill? Come skate your heart out to get a fantastic cardio workout at the same time while your favorite music jams out and you have a great time with friends and family.

There are so many reasons to roller skate, but what better reason than your health? Check out our schedule and invite a friend to join you for an evening of skating fun that also happens to be a fitness routine.

4 Tips for Maintaining Roller-Skates

If you’re an avid skater, roller-skates are a great investment. You can choose your favorite skate style, customize your skates for skating sports, and save money on skate rentals. But with great skates comes great responsibility. Do you know how to maintain your roller-skates? You can extend the life of your skates with just a few simple tricks.

How to Maintain Roller-Skates

  1. inline skating outsideClean them up. Dirt can erode your boot, trucks, bearings, and wheels, wearing out your roller-skates faster. Keep the boot clean and dry, wiping away excess moisture if they get wet from sweat or spills. Let your boots dry naturally in a well ventilated area. Clean your bearings and wheels to keep things rolling smoothly.
  2. Tighten your trucks. While more advanced skaters may loosen their trucks to improve maneuverability, most skaters should make sure their trucks stay tight to the boot. Unsecured trucks can be dangerous, so ask a pro if you’re not sure what to look for.
  3. Touch your toes. Some skates have adjustable toe stops. Skaters can experiment to find the right toe stop position. For non-adjustable trucks, check them occasionally to make sure the toe stop stays tight to the boot.
  4. Spin your wheels. If they’re slow or catch mid-spin, there’s likely a dirt build up. Clean your wheels and they’ll be as good as new. If your wheels are worn or marked with divots, replace them before they cause a problem. Nobody wants a pile up on the skating floor!

Looking for a new pair of wheels? Check out our roller-skate buy guide. Then swing by Skate World Center and ask about our options!

One Skate, Two Skate, Red Skate, Blue Skate

Do your kids love Tiny Tots? Do they love Dr. Seuss? You’re invited to a very special Tiny Tots event to celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday! We’re taking a cue from the mischief makers in all of your kids favorite stories and throwing an upside down, inside out, crazy fun party. After all, no one is better at mayhem than toddlers; even certain hat-wearing cats! There’s just one rule: no eating birthday cake in the bath tub!

Tiny Tots Story Time Celebration

tiny tots dr. seuss eventYour kids don’t have to choose between story time and active play. At Tiny Tots they’ll have plenty of time for both! We’re celebrating the man who changed children’s literature forever. Dr. Seuss’s birthday is coming up on March 2nd! We’re celebrating a few weeks early with a special event for toddlers in Tallahassee.

Skate Your Way to a Successful New Year

happy boy with cakeChristmas may be over, but there’s still plenty to look forward to! At Skate World Center, there’s no end to the fun. And what better ways to achieve your New Year’s resolutions than to make them feel like play? Accomplish your family New Year’s resolutions in 2017 at your favorite Tallahassee skating center.

4 New Year’s Resolutions for Families

  1. Get in shape. For some getting in shape means working off those Christmas cookies. For others it simply means leading a healthy, active lifestyle. Roller-skating helps both kids and adults stay active and get in shape. It works your legs and glutes, strengthens your core, and can even burn up to 600 calories in an hour. According the American Heart Association, it’s one of the top exercises for heart health. And it’s easier to stick with fun activities than boring workouts. If you’re not convinced yet, look at it this way: it beats going to the gym!
  2. Save money. Unlike many family activities, roller-skating comes with a small price tag. Skate all day for under $10. Pinching pennies after the holiday season? Monday Mania Skate is just $2 per skater for 4 ½ hours of fun!
  3. Spend more time with family. Kids can learn to roller-skate before they’re old enough to start Kindergarten. And skating is like riding a bike: once you learn, you never forget. That’s why skating is also a great choice for spending quality time with grandparents. They won’t have to wait on the sidelines while the kids play!
  4. Try something new. Who’s ready for 2017? Celebrate with us at the Noon Year’s Eve Balloon Drop Kids Skate Party. We’re gearing up for big fun, including a 4pm balloon drop with prizes.

These are just a few of the New Year’s resolutions Skate World Center can help you achieve. Ready for a fresh start? Take the family roller-skating in 2017.

Holiday Roller-Skate Buying Guide

With Christmas just around the corner, Santa’s little elves are hard at work. And what’s our top pick for kids’ Christmas presents this year? Roller-skates! Not only are roller-skates fun for kids, they encourage hard work, quality time with family, and staying active. If you’re planning to buy roller-skates this holiday season, here are a few things to keep in mind.

How to Choose Roller-Skates

There’s no such thing as a bad pair of skates, but your choice will depend on what kind of skating your child loves. Ask yourself these questions:

  • Quad skates or inline skates?
  • Speed skates or artistic skates?
  • Starter skates or intermediate skates?
  • Fun and colorful, or simple and straightforward?

If you’re not sure what type of skate your child needs, don’t worry. We have plenty of rental options, too. Take a page from the sneaky elf playbook and have your child try inline and quad skates at your next skating session. Watch to see if your child prefers speed or tricks on the skating floor. Ask our skate pros (or your child’s skating instructor) which type of skates they’d recommend. We’re here to help!

Great Deals on Roller-Skates

christmas presentIt should come as no surprise that we’re serious about roller-skating.
